I came across an interesting tip on posting jobs online from the HR Daily Advisor. According to their article (and similar to studies that show the best day to send out recruitment email marketing), the best day to post your job on a job board is Wednesday.
Hey – that was yesterday, crap! Not that I am saying that this is the best way to attract job candidates online – but you are going to post them anyway. And when you do, please write a job description that will actually attract not just inform.
The information on the best day to post came from a study by eQuest that tracked more than a million of their clients job postings for the last 8 months. Job seeker’s searches on the job boards spike Monday – Thursday. And what happens after Thursday you ask? Nose dive. There is a major drop in activity on Friday and continuing through the weekend.
Here are the percetages:
Monday: 17.5%
Tuesday: 17.8%
Wednesday: 18.1%
Thursday: 16.8%
Friday: 12.3%
Saturday: 8.6%
Sunday: 9.0%
How about some day-part info?
Job posting “views” spike from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and then again from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. So – clearly during working hours for the currently employed.
The study is useful for trying to time postings but I wonder if this general online job search behavior holds true for searching for jobs on Google, on blogs or online communities and forums.
The one piece that of the study that makes the most sense is that job seekers aren’t looking on Sunday because they were busy looking at the newspaper classifieds
