At last all you saw was a careerbuilder ad... I saw one that tricked me into clicking into it and it turned out to be an adult site. Yeah, that was quite annoying!

Thought you might find this interesting...since it is in keeping with the conversation here...

Rob McGovern is going to be speaking at the "Closing the Recruiting Divide Conference" on September 25th, on the Georgia Tech Campus. It is actually John Sumser’s Atlanta Recruiting Roadshow touting "starting to bridge the gap."

The advertisement forwarded to me stated..."Many recruiters are aware of new techniques and tools for getting better at their jobs but too few have access to the people and resources that enable their use of those things. Using search engines, social networks, text messaging, blogs, optimized job postings and array of new approaches are becoming critical components of the recruiting mix and the gap between those who “get it” and those who don’t is widening. Which side of the divide will you be on? "

If anyone is interested in attending...

Would love to be at this - wondering if you or Shannon are going to have time to get there. :)

I think part of the problem is that Facebook's ad rates are above board so Careerbuilder, rather than spend their ad dollars on creative ad campaigns, is simply throwing up ads hoping to catch people by virtue of the fact that they have an ad. I haven't talked to a single person who has been impressed with either the ads or the Facebook applications created by Careerbuilder recently. I think they may want to consider borrowing a page from Jobster - who has spent their energy and resources on creating a decent Facebook Application and significant buzz in the blog community.

Hi Ami,

From the looks of it CareerBuilder isn't doing any significant job matching. Instead they're just aligning traditional searches around geographic locations and groups. Take a look here. Of course, this isn't new at all, they're just inserting their search widget in to a new location.

Forget the ad! What's the job matching application all about?

Having read a lot about Rob McGovern this week -- the former founder and CEO of CareerBuilder and now touting job matching with his new venture Jobfox -- I am intrigued about this concept. The cybic in me says its hype? The neophyte says "prove it."

Thoughts?

Hey Jules,

I was going to write a blog post about recruitment/job board advertising in FaceBook. Most of what I have seen has been in the form of the 'sponsored' text ads as well as banner ads. A more interesting employer branding campaign is current being run by McDonalds - McCareers. Here is the ad and the FaceBook group it links too. Over 750 members last time I looked:
