Welcome to EXCELER8ion!

EXCELER8ion is our take on the world of social media, interactive marketing and technology. We write about our areas of focus and passion like the business of interactive marketing, business blogging and wikis, social networks, online recruitment advertising, marketing technology, word-of-mouth marketing (WOM), and social media optimization (SMO). We also cover broader areas that we feel add context to the work we do. We won’t follow many rules because this business is about experimenting, learning and performing.

Our corporate blogging policy

When blogging:

better to be a smart ass, than a dumb ass.

Our inspiration for our own, highly memorable blog policy came from work we did for one of our clients and a resulting blog post where Julian aired his thoughts on the topic (phew!).

Here’s the post if you want to understand the context for our policy and here’s our initial draft policy that led us to our final blogging policy that you see presented here.

Why do we call our blog EXCELER8ion�

Because in the world we live in it’s about TIME and PEOPLE and getting more out of both of them.

So much of today’s knowledge work has to do with time and people. Together, they are our most precious resource. Consider the following business example of time and acceleration. CapitalOne, a major U.S. credit card company, answers 200,000-300,000 calls a day in their call centers. By shaving just one second of time off of their average call it saves CapitalOne $40 million dollars annually*. Not only that, but clients get their answers faster. And who came up with the idea that saved that time and then made it happen? People.

How about on the individual level? People like David Allen, the personal productivity guru and author of Getting Things Done, are redefining how people work in the information age. A quick Google search on life hacks will turn up amazing amounts of people that are leveraging time in their life with a great many using the Internet and technology as a key enabler. One of our favorites is inspired by Allen: a well known blog called 43Folders written by Merlin Mann and so named for Allen’s famous tickler file system that uses 43 folders.

In our business we use acceleration to get companies from where they are now, to where they want to be, as quickly as possible using life hacks, business hacks, sound business practices and anything else that will work!
Did you know that in physics acceleration doesn’t just mean an increase in speed? Slowing down is acceleration too, as is changing direction with no change in speed. At exceler8 we know that in business EXCELER8ion isn’t just about going faster and the same goes for our personal lives. It is about quality and efficiency too. Sometimes to truly accelerate your results you need to change direction, or even slow down. It’s not always intuitive. Maybe the right formula for your business is handling your critical but less important work as efficiently as possible so that you have the time to slow down and get creative or spend more time with your kids, thus changing direction and truly accelerating. With acceleration; you don’t just get raw speed, you get to stay in control of what is best for your life.
